The Navistream platform allows a super administrator to create, edit and manage a number of custom inspections that can be delivered to different vehicle types throughout your fleet. The steps to do this are listed below:

  1. Create a vehicle type

All inspections need to be assigned to a vehicle type. Before we start creating the content of the inspection we need to make sure our vehicle type is defined. Please refer to this article for instructions on how to create a custom vehicle type.

  2. Create Inspection Tasks
    1. Log into the www.mynavistream.com website with a user account that has Super Administrator privileges

    2. Click on Administration at the top of the page

    3. Click on Inspections under configuration. Either on the left side panel, or middle of the page

    4. Click on Inspection Tasks on the top

    5. Click on Create New Inspection Task on the top right

    6. Give your new task a name and description. Keep in mind that a task is a "container" that contains one or more defects. Give your task a name and description bearing that in mind.

    7. Create specific defects by using the “Add Defect Type” button.

    8. Give each defect a Name, description and Severity (major or minor). These will end up being the selectable defects that show on an inspection when using the Navistream tablet and touching on the name of the task you created above. An example of how your page may look when done is below.

    9. Click on Create Inspection Task when completed

  3. Creating an Inspection Template
    1. Log into the www.mynavistream.com website with a user account that has Super Administrator privileges

    2. Click on Administration at the top of the page

    3. Click on Inspections under configuration. Either on the left side panel, or middle of the page

    4. Click Create new Inspection Template

    5. Fill out the following fields in the page that loads.
      • Template Name: Just the name you'd like to give this template. We suggest using the name of the vehicle type you will assign it to.
      • Template Description: A brief description of this template.
      • Active: Select either active or inactive to turn the template on or off.
      • Odometer Reading: Disabled, Allowed, or Required - This option gives the opportunity to allow or require the driver to input the vehicle odometer into the inspection they perform on the tablet.
      • Compliance text: Whatever you write in here will show up on the inspection as text. This can be used to make a statement such as "The vehicle shown has been inspected in accordance with the applicable requirements of NSC Standard 13 Part 2, Schedule 1." or something similar.
      • Vehicle Type: Select the vehicle type this inspection will be delivered to. This will likely be the vehicle type we created in step 1, above.

    6. Click the Add Category button in the lower right corner. Categories are the column headings that show up in a Navistream inspection such as "Brakes and Wheels" or "Circle Check".
    7. Give your new category a name. Select the tasks to be included in this category. Choose one or more of the pre-existing tasks we have that encompass a schedule 1 inspection, or use the ones you've created in step 2 above. An example of how your page may look when done is below.
    8. Click on Create Inspection Template when completed

Note: If you're just looking to make a change, delete, or copy an existing template, you can select it in the list and press the button you wish to perform
Note: You cannot make edits to system default Inspection templates such as our "Schedule 1 Tractor" template. Instead, open the template and press the Copy Inspection Template button. This will duplicate the template for you, allowing you to save it under a new name and make changes to it.
